Palm Partnership Training Announces Winners of Discover Western Dressage Symposium Scholarship

wdafl-lynnpalmOctober 19-20 Fox Grove Farm in Ocala, FL, will be home to the third Discover Western Dressage Symposium cosponsored by Palm Partnership Training and the Western Dressage Association of Florida. An all-star lineup of Lynn Palm, Cyril Pittion-Rossillon and USDFL L Graduate with Distinction Karen Abbattista offers a broad perspective from many vantage points including competitor, trainer, instructor, coach and judge. With more than 25 professionals and amateurs from 10 states, Canada and New Zealand in the first two sessions, the program is quickly becoming a staple in the world of western dressage education.

Palm Partnership Training offered one scholarship to the Symposium to a deserving candidate through a Facebook Contest. Entries were to submit a photo of themselves and their horses along with explaining Why Do I Ride Western Dressage in 100 words or less. With submissions from competitors on all breeds of horses, all ages and all parts of Florida, the voting began and lasted 2 weeks. In the end, Celine Reilly from Port Orange, FL, pulled ahead to win the scholarship with nearly 400 votes. Celine wrote “Beginning this year, I’ve jumped into the new and exciting world of Western Dressage, all while refining my horsemanship skills with my beloved gelding (Rewarding Invitation).”

It was difficult to select just one winner, so Palm and Pittion-Rossillon extended a second invitation to Tamara Gear-Lewis who wrote,

I have been showing the AQHA circuit for over 30 years. The journey of learning and competing in Western Dressage is like a “breath of fresh air”. My horse is happier, moving free, ears up, without any tail swishing. Riding forward on a snaffle is so enjoyable…The tests are presented in a logical step by step transition that solidify communication between horse and rider. Using the algorithm presented, my horse has accepted collection and improved in both impulsion and rhythm. He is allowed to move freely for his size and conformation.

The Symposium is comprised of theory sessions, discussion and live demonstrations which offer a clear and precise progression of humane and effective Western Dressage fundamentals based on classical training. The Symposium answers many questions asked about western dressage and rules for gaits, maneuvers, tack, attire and competition as furnished by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). During demonstrations desirable and undesirable gaits, proper and improper balance, frame and tempo are observed along with properly ridden arena figures, lateral movements and the art of riding with accuracy. Questions will be addressed during demonstrations to solidify the proper image of the western dressage horse and rider.

While the participants received a wealth of information for instructing, training, coaching and judging western dressage to take home in Part 1, there is a need for progression and constant evolution. Therefore, Part 2 to the Symposium will take place March 21-23, 2016.

The 2015 fall Symposium is October 19-20 at Fox Grove Farm following Palm Partnership Training’s Western Dressage Clinic and Competition October 16-18.
