WDAA Western Dressage World ShowSave the date!

The Western Dressage Association® of America has a wonderful week of Western Dressage excitement planned for this fall!  Plan to join the Western Dressage Association® of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 30 & 31, 2014 for our Fifth Annual Convention and stay and show at the second WDAA World Championship Horse Show which is open to all breeds on November 1 & 2, 2014.

The World Show will feature classes in two arenas including Western Dressage tests, Freestyles and Suitability, Hack and Equitation rides.  Participants at all levels are encouraged to participate and all breeds and types of horses are welcome, including ponies and mules.

The WDAA annual convention offers members an opportunity to learn more about Western Dressage from a wide variety of experts; to network with Western Dressage folks from all over the country; to have first-hand input in guiding the development and direction of this wonderful emerging discipline.  Don’t miss a great meeting and a great time in Tulsa!

Could you please tell me the name of the hotel were the Western Dressage convention will be held? Is it close to were the Western Dressage world show will be held? Thanks Nancy

Yes the Host hotel is near the World Show Venue. The Embassy Suites Hotel is our Hotel of choice in the Tulsa OK area and where the Annual Convention will be held again this year. We had a successful event with them last year so we are returning again for the 2014 event. Hopefully there will be a Website Link provided soon so you can book online and get the reduced rate offered to WDAA Members attending the Convention and/or World Show. If you cannot wait for the Hotel link, then when calling let them know you wish to take advantage of the “WDAA Rate”. Visit our World Show Website for more information… http://wdaaworldshow.org

I know that yall will be offering the tests, but could u also give more info
About the suitability, hack, and equitation classes? Also how will that factor into
The high point? And when does registration open? Are yall still giving a saddle
Too as a high point award?

Hello, At this time we do not have all the complete details yet to release information. It will be available in a few days. However, to answer your question, there will not be suitability, equitation or hack classes at the World Show so they will not factor into the high point awards. I am unsure of what prizes have been secured for high point awards, these are some of the details still being developed. Thank you!

Hi, I’m excited about the chance to come! Will you be offering all levels of tests including Introductory? I’m just starting out in W. Dressage with no dressage background. I’d hate to have to rush to get to a higher level so we could show.

Yes all levels will be offered including Introductory.

How would a horse and rider qualify?

There are no set qualifications, everyone is allowed to participate. You are only required to be a WDAA member to enjoy showing at the WDAA World Show!

Are you going to have classes for Gaited horses?

    • DMD-Admin

Hi Judy, All breeds can compete at Western Dressage including gaited breeds and we welcome you to the WDAA World Show. I am unsure there would be separate classes for Gaited horses, as the tests are the same regardless of the breed. You just substitute the gaits for the jog/trot. Please see the WDAA Western Dressage rules for how gaited horses are to be judged.

Thank you for posting the dates for the World show and convention. Showing my horse at the World show is my big adventure for 2014. Planning had already begotten and now I can real get going making arrangement .
Coming all the way from Washington State. This is on my bucket list. I can hardly wait.

  • How does someone qualify to compete at the world show? I understand that with Western Dressage being in it’s infancy there are no structured/sanctioned competitions, at least not here in Ontario Canada. Thanks for your help.

    • DMD-Admin

You are correct about it being in its infancy, but taking off very rapidly. There are no qualifications other than being a WDAA member at this time. At some point in the future, that will most likely change when a point or awards system is put into place. Thanks for your comments.
