Joyce Swanson and World Champion
Cedar Creek Quartermaster

Joyce Swanson has been a professional horse trainer since the mid-seventies. She started her show horse career competing in Open Hunter, Dressage and Combined Training.  The next twelve years were spent training and showing Arabians.  In 1986 her interests narrowed to one breed, the Morgan horse, to which she has devoted the last twenty-five  years.  Career highlights include World and National Championship titles in English Pleasure, Three and Four year old Western Pleasure, Park Saddle, Hunter Pleasure,  Dressage, and Carriage Driving.

She eagerly shares her passion for horses through an educational program she created called Principled Horsemanship.  Her versatility in so many disciplines has led to teaching the fundamentals of horsemanship to exhibitors and judges around the world.

She credits the principles of  Dressage with all of her horse and rider successes.  The purpose of performing “Cowboy Dressage” at major equine events in the 1990’s was to demonstrate this universal application.  The formation of the WDAA (Western Dressage Association of America)  and her involvement in the Colorado chapter is a dream come true.  Joyce helped author the western dressage tests for WDAA which provide a firm foundation for a harmonious relationship between every horse and rider and enjoys coaching riders to improve their scores.

Watch for her bi-monthly blog that will published only on the Western Dressage Association of America’s blog page.

Joyce Swanson is licensed with USEF in Morgan, Saddle Seat Equitation, Working Western, Western Seat, AMHA and ASPC/AMHR.
