WDAMI at the Michigan State Horse Expo

WDAMI-ExpoThe Michigan State Horse Expo is the largest equine event in the state of Michigan. Western Dressage Association® of Michigan was proud to be part of this large gathering. WDAMI hosted a booth during the 3 day event. We met many horse enthusiasts across the state of Michigan and networked with numerous horse associations in Michigan. Prepared with brochures, videos, membership applications, conversations with many people started at 9:00 am on Friday, March 7 and continued throughout the duration of the Expo. What fun to talk with horse advocates and those seeking new ways to enjoy their horse!!

On Saturday evening the Expo hosted an evening performance which included a fifteen minute demonstration of Western Dressage. The demo was performed by Rachel Leigh Ory, WDAMI Board member and her money earner horse Yankee Pistol Pete. The stands were packed and applause was shared enthusiastically as Rachel and Pete performed variations of walk, jog and lope plus simple and complex maneuvers ranging from the halt and back to half pass and flying lead changes.

This event was WDAMI debut and we were overwhelmed with the excitement and interest in Western Dressage. We were also able to connect with individual 4H leaders across the state as well as the coordinator for the entire state. All are eager to introduce this sport into 4H programming.

Exciting times for this new sport!!! I encourage all affiliates to take every opportunity to participate in your state expos and similar horse events. People are inquiring about Western Dressage and it is our chance to help the promote this wonderful opportunity.
